My political belief- Chris Dakich

First and foremost I believe in the individual's right to freedom so long as that freedom does not diminish the freedom of another. I believe that a corporation's objective is to make money, and it cannot be faulted for this, just as a shark cannot be faulted for swimming. However, it is the government's responsibility to intercede when a corporation's money making hurts the public. This includes informing citizens of what they can control and protecting them from what they can’t. I believe that the government's purpose is to ensure that everyone: regardless of race, gender, age, or creed, has the right to engage in civic discourse. Furthermore, I believe that regardless of how the lottery of birth affected them anyone who calls America their home should have the opportunity to succeed. All citizens should have the right to a voice in government. I cannot say that anyone should want to give up a percentage of their wealth on top of the taxes they already pay, nor do I think that taking money from one person and giving it to another is the best solution. However, if I had to choose between depriving a rich man of his third car, and ensuring that a struggling family was able to live above the poverty line, I would choose the family.

ReplyDeleteI agree that its fair to let corporations do what they do best but that the government should step in when these corporations hurt the public. I also agree that having a voice in the government is something that every citizen should have the right to. I scored very close to you on the political compass and it might be why we agree on many of these issues.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your social views but economically I believe that it shouldn't be up to the government to have a say in most of the policies set forth by private corporations and businesses. I believe that government interference in economics hurts the economy and halts business growth. I believe that as long as a corporation doesn't harm the environment or creates a monopoly I don't believe the government should interfere.
