I think the goal of the government should be to serve the people, but not be overly involved in the lives of citizens. When in doubt, I think it is best to err on the side of protecting freedoms and choices. I believe in the freedoms and opportunities that America offers, and I think the government should do their best to ensure equity and prosperity. I think politicians need to continuously keep in mind that they are serving the people they represent, so they should put those interests first over the interests of their own individual beliefs or lobbyists. Americans who have more wealth should recognize the power and privilege they have, so I think it is morally right for them to make efforts to help those less fortunate. I think the government should require large companies to increase pay as the cost of living increases and to create programs to benefit the good of all people. However, I do not think the government should require individual citizens to be held to the same standard.
I think three main values that every American citizen should have the right to vote, the right to speak freely without fear of retribution/persecution, and the right to pursue the American Dream. There were other values on the list that I also think every American are entitled to, but I believe these three are the most important. These three rights are the most basic natural rights that exist in a democracy. Freedoms of speech and opportunity were some of the republicanism ideals America was founded on, and they still apply to this day.
