According to the Political Typology quiz- I'm an Opportunity Democrat.
This means that I have liberal attitudes on issues including the environment, immigration, and homosexuality. Another one of the core beliefs that this includes is that change still needs to be made in order to provide individuals to have equal opportunities to succeed.
Our government today should require that those with more wealth pay more in order to help those with less. Once you get to the point when you are considered to be in the top few percent of the country when it comes to wealth, it will make little to no impact for you to have to pay a bit more in order to help those that are less fortunate. If I were in one of the top percentages for wealth in this country, I would be more than happy to pay more in taxes in order to help others.
Regardless of the age, creed, color, religious affiliation, or sex all Americans should have the rights to:
- Marry legally
- Worship as one pleases (as long as it does not harm others)
- To vote
I find your post thorough and well done. I am intrigued by the three most important things you believe all Americans should have the right to. What do you mean by the statement that worshiping as one pleases has the potential to "harm others"? Do you think the right to marry legally is more important than the freedom of speech?
ReplyDeleteI agree with your idea that the government should require the top few percent to pay more taxes in order to help less fortunate people. I also agree that more change needs to be implemented in order to create equal opportunities for everyone including immigrants. I'm curious about the views of an opportunity Democrat and your own views on change, environment, and immigrants.
