How does what happens to “Andrew
Beckett” in Philadelphia violate the 14th
Amendment?
“All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the
jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state
wherein they reside. No state shall make or enforce any law which shall
abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor
shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due
process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal
protection of the laws.”

The14th amendment states that "...No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property...," which means that all citizens of the US should have equal rights despite any factors of their identity. By firing Andrew Beckett after learning he is gay and has aids, the law firm deprived him of his right to life, liberty, and property.

marriage speak to “due process” and
“equal protection” under the 14th
Amendment?
Obergefell v. Hodges

Equal protection guarantees the same rights, privileges, and protections- such as marriage. Due process speaks to fair treatment for all citizens- such as everyone being allowed to marry instead of certain couples. Obergefell v. Hodges was the landmark civil rights court in which the Supreme Court guaranteed the fundamental right to marry to all couples.The advent of same sex marriage was overdue execution of the 14th amendment in terms of both due process and equal protection.
